Jahia leverages Apache Unomi for profile-based personalization in its Digital Experience and Web Content Management applications, and with the Apache Unomi TLP graduation, launches an enterprise subscription, the Jahia Customer Data Hub (CDH), to provide enterprise grade services for Apache Unomi. The Jahia CDH subscription includes support provided by Jahia’s Apache Unomi experts, who developed the original software and continue to contribute code to the ASF. Prioritized fixes and new feature development, consulting, training and technical support with guaranteed response times provide the support required for enterprise deployments of this  standard-setting, open-source software with privacy by design.

Jahia customers and partners are already generating significant value with their use of Apache Unomi:

Al-Monitor, a global newsroom headquartered in Washington, D.C. with a network of over 160 authors and analysts around the world, uses Apache Unomi to personalize the deep insight it provides into the Middle East for its subscribers. Valerie Voci, Head of Digital Strategy and Marketing at Al-Monitor, said Apache Unomi “helps us create a very cohesive marketing message and a great overall digital experience. Al-Monitor readers can be driven towards additional personalized content that corresponds, via content tag profiling and automated segmentations, to what they have already accessed. This data follows our customers where they go, so it’s a consistent experience whether they are getting these recommendations in their inbox or on the website or both. And if a change takes place on one, that change is immediately reflected on the other.”

Lars Petersen, Co-Founder at Jahia partner Altola, says that the Apache Unomi CDP helped them deliver a progressive web app (PWA) for an important client in record time. Altola used Apache Unomi “to store customer insights, such as behavioral and explicit customer data. Privacy was table-stakes for us, along with the flexibility to customize data schema and the open API. Using the Jahia Cloud offering, we had the Apache Unomi CDP up and running on Amazon Web Services in less than 30 minutes. We are very impressed with the maturity of the platform, its privacy by design and how easy it is to work with.”

Elie Auvray, Head of Business Development at Jahia, tells the story of how Apache Unomi came into being: “Jahia CTO Serge Huber and I initiated this project back in 2014 with the clear goal to make it an Apache Top Level Project. We announced and submitted it as an Apache Incubator project at the 2015 ApacheCon Budapest,” he said. “This was the very beginning of ethical, data-driven marketing that would respect the privacy of customers and leverage the power of unified customer data. We are proud to congratulate the Apache Unomi team at ASF on its powerful, open source Customer Data Platform becoming the 199th Top-Level Project. We are grateful to the Apache Foundation for its work and we know this is the beginning of a lasting marriage between unified customer data and important, global privacy protection.”

According to the ASF news release (https://s.apache.org/brS6), “Apache Unomi is a standards-based, customer data platform that manages online customer data, leads, and visitor information to provide personalized customer experiences that adheres to visitor privacy rules such as GDPR and “Do Not Track” preferences.

“Apache Unomi features privacy management, user/event/goal tracking, reporting, visitor profile management, segmentation, personas, A/B testing, and more. It can be used as a:

  • personalization service for a Web CMS
  • analytics service for a native mobile application
  • centralized profile management system
  • consent management hub

Laurent Liscia, CEO of OASIS, the standards body, said, "The Customer Data Platform Specification, being established within the OASIS Context Service Technical Committee, for which Apache Unomi aims to be the reference implementation, lies at the crossroads of many solution providers needs such as WCM, CRM, Big Data Platforms, Machine Learning, IoT and Digital Marketing. At a time where client data interoperability and built-in data privacy are mandatory foundations for legal, consistent, and personalized experiences across channel markets and systems, the ‘data privacy by design’ at the core of the CDP Specification and now, Apache Unomi, is a clear and welcome answer to end-user concerns."
